MINISTER PAKDEMİRLİ: "DAM GATE WAS CLOSED, DAM RESERVOIR OPERATION IS STARTED"
Ergani Dam, which was built in Diyarbakır by the General Directorate of State Hydraulic Works (DSI) of the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry, has reached a happy end.
Minister of Agriculture and Forestry Bekir Pakdemirli announced that the dam gate was closed and dam reservoir process has begun.
In order to increase the income level of the local people by providing the transition to irrigated agriculture in Diyarbakır, the construction of dams and irrigation systems within the scope of GAP Project is continuing rapidly.
Within this scope, construction works were completed and water retention was started by water retention beams were lowered and starting the plug concrete at the Ergani Dam.
18 THOUSAND 660 DECANDS OF LAND WILL REACH WATER
Minister Pakdemirli indicated that with the water stored in the dam which is 54 meters from the base and has 14.51 million m3 volume, 18.660 decares of land will be irrigated.
With the meeting of fertile soils in the region with water, it is aimed to contribute 12 million 800 thousand TL annually to the national economy with unit prices in 2019.
IRRIGATION PROJECT WILL CATCH 2020 IRRIGATION SEASON
Minister Pakdemirli stressed that construction works continue for Ergani Dam irrigation project. He said, ""We aim to complete these construction works before the irrigation season of 2020. With the irrigated agriculture to be made in the region, the farmer will be able to plant maize as the second crop. Thus, the income of our regional producer will increase by 3-5 times. The people of the region will prosper. Irrigated agriculture will also contribute to employment in the region".
